52 Weeks : 52 Wines

I started this blog in 2013 when I wanted to give myself some incentive to keep trying new things, following completion of the WSET courses, and I hit on a plan based on there being 26 letters in the alphabet and two principle wine colours. Multiply one by the other and you get to 52. By coincidence there are also 52 weeks in the year. So, each week I have attempted to find, buy, taste and comment on one wine, alternating between the principle colours and making the selection based on the next sequential letter of the alphabet.

The letter usually represents the major grape variety used in the chosen wine, its AOC / DOC / IGP, etc, or any other connection that I see fit, when I get desperate.

This worked well for the first five laps of the alphabet, but I eventually found I was buying wine to fit the rules of my game, rather than because I was continuing to learn anything new. So, after a pause to recapture my interest and to reassess why I do this at all, I abandoned the rules. I continued to explore but with less structure and as a result blog updates dried up at the end of 2015, which I am a little sad about. So after three year gap I have relaunched my documented search.

You can check up on the journey and encourage me to keep going (or advising me to stop) by looking at the Weekly Wine page and adding any comments you wish.

My journey through the WSET courses and beyond is also partially documented here: Veritas in Vino .
